The Grand Bazaar

The most significant and the largest bazaar in Istanbul. Made for Fatih Sultan Mehmet in second half of 1400's. It has 60 streets and 4000 shops where you can buy many traditional handmade gifts, carpets and many other souvenirs or you can taste Turkish cafe in bazaar's authentic cafes.

 

 

The Blue Mosque

Made for Sultan Ahmet the first by Sedefkar Mehmet Aga, the mosque construction started in 1609 and finished in 1617. The original name is "Sultan Ahmet Cami", also foreigners called it "Blue Mosque" because of its more than 20.000 blue tiles. Its original aspect is its six minarets which is unique in the world. The mosque's dome is 43 meters high and entire mosque is enlighten by 260 colored windows.

 

 
 

The Underground Cistern

Made in 6th century for Byzantine Emperor Justinian in order to keep water during wars. One of the most interesting place to visit later called "Basilica Cistern" can contain up to 80.000 cubic meters of water with its 336 columns

 

 
 

The Egyptian Bazaar

Made for Safiye Sultan in 1663 and given its name because of the trade goods coming from Egypt. The bazaar also called "Spice Bazaar" where you can find every kind of spice, dried fruits, medicinal and Istanbul souvenirs.

 

 
 

St. Sophia

Made for emperor Justinian's in late 300's, Hagias Sophia was used for 916 years as a church and 481 years as a mosque. It is one of the impressive example of fusion of west and east. With its 4 minarets and 55 meters high dome Hagias Sophia is visited as a museum since 1935.

 

 
   
   
 

Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum

The palace named and constructed for Ibrahim Pasha in 16th century. In republican area it is restored and turned into Turkish and Islamic art museum.
